Gutzmer Receives Wetland Certification

The Society of Wetland Scientists Professional Certification Renewal Committee recently announced Dr. Michael Gutzmer’ renewal as a Professional` Wetland Scientist.  The certification is intended to recognize the considerable
education, experience and other requirements necessary to accomplish work and progress in the subject of wetland science and ecology.

The SWS Professional Certification Program is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).  It is broad in scope and is intended to provide international recognition as a practicing professional in wetland science. At the current time, there are no other international or national wetland specific certification programs.

Gutzmer is Principal and owner of New Century Environmental LLC (NCE) in Columbus with almost six associate scientists.   NCE is a regional environmental consulting firm specializing in fishery and wildlife surveys, threatened and endangered species, environmental assessment and all aspects of wetland and water resource management.

NCE is currently celebrating their 10th Anniversary in business in the Columbus area and supports clients in the majority of the states in the Great Plains region. NCE client examples are railroads, power companies, wind farms, highway projects, ranchers and farmers.   The mission of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is to promote understanding, conservation, protection, restoration, science-based management, and sustainability of wetlands.

Gutzmer and his wife Melanie live in Columbus.  They have four adult children, Alex (Omaha), Lexie (Omaha), Seth (UNL), and Wyatt (UNK).
